You Can't Hit A Target You Cannot See

Why is it indispensable for Target?

For several compelling reasons, goals are important for the achievement of targets:

1. Direction and Focus

Goals provide clear direction and focus. In the absence of a defined goal, you might be wandering in your life without clarity in order to make a step forward. A goal is like a compass. It guides your efforts and makes sure that you are moving along the right track.

2. Motivation and Engagement

Clear goals are very motivating. A clear target can make one feel motivated and energized about taking the actions required to reach the goal. Goals give one something to shoot for that, in the long run, can increase their motivation and involvement in the process of achieving them.

3. Prioritization

Through setting goals, a person gets to prioritize the time and resources. A person can know their direction and what they seek to achieve, and through this, one is making better efforts in terms of allocation of efforts and resources toward activities that are more likely to lead toward attainment of target.

4. Measuring Progress

Goals will help you measure how far you have been and how much is left to go with a clear target in mind. You can set out milestones; this will help you along the way when adjusting your strategies in making those necessary adjustments.

5. Accountability

Most importantly, goal-setting makes you liable to yourself. The moment you set a specific target, you become more liable to keep up with it. Liability to some extent will push you harder to deliver your best and never give up in a situation if things are getting tough.

6. Resources Utilization

With the aims set out, you can now devote the proper resources. This may be a monetary resource, time, or talent. If one knows what is targeted, this would help him better move his rations to produce maximum impact on achieving his intended target.

One of the greatest pieces of advice that has crossed my path on illuminating personal and professional development has to be from Zig Ziglar: "You can't hit a target you can't see." It is a very simple statement, but what it emphasizes is that one needs to have set clear and defined goals. When we do not have such clear vision, then more probably we would wander around in life without direction and purpose.

Some of what this blog post will address is how some of history's and our contemporary world's most influential people have proven to show the need to discover and set goals. We will examine examples for ourselves, seeing how being able to see if you will to reach for something in particular led them to achieve grand success.

1. Thomas Edison: The Visionary Inventor

Thomas Edison is one of the most prolific inventors in the history book. His inventions list above 1,000 under his name made him so noted for a string of numerous inventions. He stands as a proof of clear goals and relentless pursuit.

The invention for which Edison is best known, however, remains the light bulb. But it did not come overnight. He had to undertake thousands of experiments before he could finally succeed. When people asked him about the number of failures, he famously said, "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work."

Edison's vision-ability to see a target—the practical incandescent light bulb—kept him going despite thousand setbacks. His sight was so clear that he could articulate it precisely: to create a light bulb that could burn for hours using a carbon filament.

2. J.K. Rowling: From Poverty to Bestseller

The story of J.K. Rowling is a tale of transformation, like getting out of poverty to international fame. Her initial journey was clear-to write a book that would hook the whole of readers across the globe.

The first idea for Harry Potter came to Rowling on a train from Manchester to London in 1990. For the next five years she plotted and planned this series with meticulous care, producing lengthy outlines and character profiles despite being a single parent and living on welfare.

Her idea was innovative: she wanted to make an imaginary world that would be enjoyable for the child as well as the adult. When twelve publishers declined her idea, she never gave up as she knew what she wanted in her mind.

3. Steve Jobs: The Innovator Revolutionist

Steve Jobs co-founded the world's greatest company, Apple Inc. His vision, through technology, changed the nature of life for us all.

Jobs' objective was not to merely produce things, but to make experiences that would change people's lives. What was obvious when Jobs returned to Apple in 1997, after having been cleansed from the company he founded, was what was needed: to restore Apple's innovative edge and once more lead consumer electronics.

All these products the iPod, iPhone, and iPad, were launched under his leadership, all crafted with such precision and innovation because Jobs had a very clear vision of what he wanted to achieve with these products.

4. Malala Yousafzai Advocating for Education

Malala Yousafzai's story is all about the courage and determination against all adversities. She was born in Swat Valley, Pakistan under the rule of the Taliban. The girls were not allowed to go to school, but there was a burning desire for a goal: she went out with a purpose to fight for girls' education all over the world.

Despite narrowly surviving an attempt by the Taliban to assassinate her at the age of 15 owing to her activism against their ban on girls' education in Pakistan's Swat Valley region, Malala remained obstinate by her vision: to see every girl receive quality education all over the world.

Her tenacious efforts have bestowed on her many accolades including the Nobel Prize where she accepted it at the age of 17 years, sharing the prize with Indian children rights campaigner, Kailash Satyarthi.

5. Elon Musk: Space Expedition Revolution

Elon Musk made famous for his visionary efforts like SpaceX and Tesla Inc., both in pursuit of very ambitious goals.

In short, Musk's idea with SpaceX is to get humanity multi-planetary by setting permanent settlements on Mars within this very century-an ambition so audacious yet lyrically clear that it attracted massive investments & talent towards realizing the mission despite several technical challenges along the way.

In the same way, at Tesla Inc, Musk initiated not only electric cars but the whole automobile industry to move toward sustainable energy solutions, which would perfectly fit within the entire broader context that was set years ago. That context was protecting the Earth through innovative technological breakthroughs.

Conclusion

The examples above show how having clear goals help people move forward towards outstanding success. Either it is inventing something revolutionary like Thomas Edison or passionately advocating for the cause like Malala Yousafzai. However, defined objectives have been shown to keep what a person is doing on track and what exactly he or she needs to achieve.

In a nutshell, keep your eyes firmly fixed on the horizon ahead while taking the necessary steps to reach there because, as they say, "you can't hit a target you cannot see" – so define yours today.
